Food in The Bahamas
Based on what I have learned about the Bahamas and their culture I can say that common types of foods that this country consumes would be seafoods, especially lobster, rice, coconut water, fruit juices, grits, potatoes, and many different kinds of soups that contain seafood. I would include these items because they are the natural items that are grown/produced right here in The Bahamas. The seafood can be caught in the ocean and the Bahamian farming can provide all of the other items that are listed above. For being such a small nation, The Bahamas is very self-sufficient.
Popular Dish: Cracked Conch
This dish has been passed down from generation to generation. The conch has always been an easy sea creature to catch and cook which made this dish always easily accessible to the Bahamian's.
Recipe:
Note: Where conch is unavailable, lobster may be substituted.
Connection between religion and food
In The Bahamas they put such a stress on the importance of religion in their culture and I believe that food holds this same importance. The most important part about partaking in the life of Christianity is that you are always friendly and supportive and the same applies to The Bahamas when it comes to food. The more open and willing you are to eat, the more food you will be given. The Bahamians love food and love to express their love of food by cooking extravagant dishes and feeding all of their family and friends.
